THE ONE I ADMIRE
The *One I Admire* Portrait Project invited local residents to create portraits of individuals they admire, celebrating the heroes, diversity, and creativity of Newham. Selected portraits were displayed along Stratford High Street, marking the transformation of Alice Billings House into a vibrant cultural hub that engages the community through art. Due to the project's success, we held two rounds of submissions. Below are a few featured submissions, along with testimonies from the artists.

Pupils from Ranelagh Primary School in Stratford took part in a portrait-making workshop celebrating their ‘local heroes’. Through words and poetry, poet @mrgeepoet encouraged the students to think about the significance of a hero, what makes an everyday hero and whether they are heroes themselves. Street artist @atmastudio helped them create portraits of their respective ‘local heroes’ representing them creatively by using paint and collage.
