The hand is Planting Flowers | New Mural in Serbia

We present our final mural in the Youth Art for the Earth series. The 80-meter-long mural is titled "The Hand is Planting Flowers" and has been co-created by artist Kusha Chiks and the students of Technical School 23. Maj from Pancevo Serbia. The artist combined 33 images of a hand, starting with an open hand holding trash, and transitioning to a c blooming rose emerging from it. Through this progression, she intended to convey that while we contribute to environmental pollution, we also have the power to reverse it .

Colours of Change | Bor, Serbia | YAFE

Like many cities across the globe, Bor suffers from air pollution as a result of excessive fossil fuel use. Bor is also home to several state-owned mines for copper extraction which has added to the poor air quality, land erosion, and water pollution. Serbia further faces deforestation and various threats to local wildlife. The mural created by Artist Maja depicts these issues and brings it in the public sphere for the community to broaden their discourse on it.

Painting of the mural in Ljubljana, Slovenia | YAFE

In his mural “Choose”, Cibo plays with the problem of garbage accumulation and food waste in a unique way. Seen from a distance, the mural looks like an optical illusion about the apparent unity between the wastefulness of human existence and the limited planetary resources. In September 2023, Cibo spent several days bringing to life a stunning mural, “Choose”, near Šiška Cinema in Ljubljana, Slovenia. A blend of vibrant fruits and vegetables with discarded single-use plastic and packaging creates a powerful visual juxtaposition.
